Reports: Doctors say Sidney Crosby has abnormality between two vertebrae
The Canadian Press – ONLINE EDITION
OTTAWA – Sidney Crosby’s health issues may not be limited to his head.
Media reports state that an MRI performed on Crosby by a specialist in Utah shows an abnormality with his C1 and C2 vertebrae.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain has already missed the better part of two seasons with what has been described as both a concussion and later concussion-like symptoms.
Crosby has been injured for a year since suffering hits to the head in back-to-back games.
He made a brief return in November but only lasted eight games.
The 24-year-old native of Cole Harbour, N.S., has had a short but highly successful career. He scored in overtime to win gold in men’s hockey for Canada at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Crosby was named NHL MVP in 2007 and led the Penguins to a Stanley Cup championship in 2009.
